Special attacks: discovered check (2)

In discovered checks it is important to make sure that the back piece cannot be taken.

But in example 1 it does not really matter.

In the other examples, White has to pay better attention. White has two ways to deliver a discovered attack. But only one is good. If he picks the wrong way, he loses points.

In example 2 White moves the front piece, attacking the enemy queen. But that’s not all. The front piece is now protecting the back piece. Smart move!

In example 3 White uses a different trick.
He places the front piece between the enemy queen and his back piece. The back piece is safe from taking.
White attacks the queen and checks the king. A nice way to win points!

What do you have to do?
Use a discovered check to win points.

If White follows the green arrow, Black is in check.
At the same time, Black’s queen is attacked by the knight.
Black can get out of check by capturing the rook (5 points).
No big deal.
In turn, White’s knight can take the queen (9 points). 9 -5 = 4 points profit.
